The Story Behind The Daily Arepa
I was born and raised in Ocaña, Colombia, where arepas were more than just food, they were part of everyday life. Growing up, my family gathered around the table for breakfast and dinner, sharing freshly made arepas filled with cheese, avocado, meat, and other traditional ingredients. The aroma of freshly ground corn always filled our home and became one of my most cherished memories.
Some of my fondest moments were spent at my grandparents' house, where arepas were prepared over a wood-burning stove. Watching the dough being made from scratch and enjoying warm arepas fresh from the fire taught me that food is much more than nourishment—it is family, tradition, and love.
When I immigrated to the United States with my husband and our three daughters, I was determined not to leave those traditions behind. Making arepas became a way to stay connected to my Colombian roots and to share a piece of my homeland with my family.
Every time I knead the corn dough, I am reminded of my childhood, my grandparents, and the values that shaped me.
The Daily Arepa was born from that desire to keep our culture alive. I wanted my daughters to grow up knowing where they come from, appreciating the flavors, traditions, and stories that are part of our heritage. What began as a family tradition became a business dedicated to sharing authentic Colombian arepas with our community.
Today, every arepa we make carries a story: one of family, tradition, resilience, and love. We are honored to share a taste of Colombia with you and hope that every bite brings warmth, comfort, and connection, just as it has for our family for generations.
From our family to yours, welcome to The Daily Arepa. 🫓 🌽💛
