β±οΈ Arepa cooking: 14β18 minutes + about 3 minutes to assemble Β· Makes 1 Β· Easy
A golden Colombian arepa becomes a fun, open-faced Hawaiian Arepizza with π§ cheese, π₯ ham and π pineapple. Simple ingredients from your kitchen, and a little creativity!
π Ingredients β 1 Arepizza
- π« 1 The Daily Arepa Classic White Corn Arepa
- π§ ΒΌ cup shredded mozzarella or your favorite melting cheese
- π₯ 1β2 slices cooked ham, torn into small pieces
- π 2β3 tablespoons pineapple chunks, well drained
π©βπ³ How to make it
- Have an adult place the frozen arepa directly on a non-stick skillet or griddle over medium heat. Cook from frozenβno thawing needed.
- Cook for 7β9 minutes on the first side, checking occasionally. Flip once the surface is golden and lightly crisp. Cook the second side for 7β9 minutes, until golden and lightly crisp outside and warm and soft inside.
- Transfer the cooked arepa to a plate while it is hot and immediately add the shredded cheese so the warmth helps it melt. Keep it whole and open-facedβno slicing needed.
- Let your little chef add the cooked ham and drained pineapple. Assemble in about 3 minutes once the arepa is cooked.
- Enjoy warm! For extra-melty cheese, an adult can return it to the pan over low heat, cover briefly until the cheese melts, then transfer to a plate and enjoy warm.
